Shashikala’s Story

Shashikala joined the HOPE Computer Training Center in Hyderabad, India to learn desktop publishing. Shashikala comes from an economically disadvantaged family. Her father, Mallesh, works as a coolie (porter) and earns on an average 100 Rupees ($2) for a day’s work. Getting work is not guaranteed and there are days when he comes home penniless. Her mother works as a maid and she earns 2,000 Rupees ($40) per month.
Shashikala has two brothers and one sister. Shashikala joined HOPE to support her family.
Shashikala finished her course in 3 months and then volunteered to teach computers in the center for three months. Her computer skills have fetched a job with AIWA’s electronic service center in Hyderabad. She is working as a computer operator and her salary is 2,500 Rupees ($45) per month. Shashikala is happy to be able to support her family.

Simon has joined the IT industry!

Simon is a trained tanner and was finding it very hard to find a job. He wanted to support his family and be able to stand on his own. Simon lost his father in childhood and his mother takes care of their family. Simon has one elder sister and one younger brother. His mother earns money to support the family.
Unable to find work, Simon came to know about the HOPE computer training center through his friends. He joined HOPE and in addition to taking the computer course, he also took time to learn about computer hardware. Simon is an eager student and was first in his class.
After 3 months, he got an opportunity to work as a hardware engineer in one of the IBM offices at Hyderabad with a good salary of 5000 rupees ($100)/month. Now Simon is working and supporting his family. He is very happy and grateful to HOPE for the timely help given by the HOPE staff because his dreams came true.
